Chemers Gallery Artists at Summer Arts Festivals

It's time to kick off southern California's annual summer arts festivals! This year Chemers Gallery is proud to have five of our artists showing in Art-A-Fair, The Festival of Arts, and The Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach. Below is a quick look at participating artists Mary Aslin, Yachiyo Beck, Sandy Clark, Gerald Schwartz, and Lilia Venier.

Mary Aslin
Peonies in all Their Glory
Mary Aslin
Pastel

Pastel artist Mary Aslin specializes in painting from life, whether it is still life, human figure, or plein air, and prefers to interpret the subject in real time. Her award winning pastels have been shown all over the southland, including Chemers Gallery. This year, Mary is participating in both Art-A-Fair and The Sawdust Festival. If you stop in at her booth, be sure to congratulate her on her recent third place award at the San Clemente Plein Air Quick Draw!

Yachiyo Beck
A Walk in the Afternoon II
Yachiyo Beck
Watercolor

Yachiyo Beck has worked in a wide variety of mediums, including pencil, charcoal, pastels, and oils. She's currently focused on watercolors, and with them creates images that allow her viewers to escape from their every day lives. Her paintings are gentle and serene, and lead you right into their world, if only for a little while. Yachiyo is exhibiting at the Festival of Arts.

Sandy Clark
Still Life Illusion II
Sandy Clark
Watercolor on Yupo

Sandy Clark is intrigued by the use of various water media. Reinterpreting nature and the structural world around us by using non-traditional techniques, she finds adventure in each painting, with surprising and mysterious results. In addition working in a variety of media, she paints on yupo and other surfaces that add to the unpredictability and excitement of her work. Sandy will be at Art-A-Fair this year.

Gerald Schwartz
Last Call
Gerald Schwartz
Oil on Canvas

Gerald Schwartz is probably best recognized by his photo-realistic sky paintings. We couldn't count the number of times our customers have mistaken his beautiful oil painting on canvas for an enlarged color photograph! Gerald's sky paintings are seamless in their technique, and are stunning representations of amazing skies, clouds, and sunsets. His recent work incorporates retro design elements, which creates an overall nostalgic feel.

Lilia Venier
Leaf Bottle Multi-Color
Lilia Venier
Ceramic

Ceramicist Lilia Venier comes from a background in business studies. On a whim she signed up for art classes and discovered a great talent and enjoyment. She creates wonderfully tactile objects that cry out to be touched. Lilia uses a variety of techniques in her practice, such as raku, low firing, stoneware, and porcelain. Focusing on just one technique would be "boring" for Lilia! She has exhibited her work throughout the United States, including at the American Ceramics Society President's Show. She is exhibiting her beautiful ceramics at Art-A-Fair.

This is a great time to go out and support our local creative talents.
