Three local favorites, Mary Aslin, John Sawyer and Jim Wodark, have recently brought Chemers Gallery a few new tidbits of their latest work. Keep it coming, we can't wait to see more!
After a breif hiatus from her hectic summer Art-A-Fair and Sawdust Festival schedual, Mary Aslin has given us a beautiful pastel depicting the clock tower from Old Town Tustin. Morning on Main Street and El Camino Real contains her characteristic warmth and light. Mary has created an image that is so inviting it makes you want to stroll down the street to take in the sights. By the way, this painting recently won 2nd Place at the First Annual Old Town Tustin Art Walk. In fact, just before publishing this blog, Libby Panky strolled into Chemers Gallery and snapped it up. You snooze, you lose!
We're always delighted to see John Sawyer, especially when he's got something new to show us. Open Fields is a small scale, intimate view of the Saddleback Ridge, purple in the distance. For Orange County residents, the views of Saddleback with the clouds just peeking through are a familliar, tranquil sight. John's paintings of Orange County are modern yet reminiscent of Gustav Baumann, and easily resonate with locals and those further afield.
Jim Wodark has turned his attentions to the nautical, with his stunning oil of small boats moored for the day in Moro Bay. His reflections in the water are so realistic, you can almost hear the water lapping gently against the hull of the boat. Jim is probably best known for his California Plein Air landscape paintings, but every once in awhile he'll throw something new in the mix. Can't wait to see what's next!

Body Art at Chemers Gallery
No matter the medium, Chemers Gallery strives to provide unique works of art to display on your walls or your body. No, we haven't turned into a tattoo parlor, although that might not be such a bad idea... However, our jewelry collection is created by amazing designers from all over the world. Just in time for your holiday shopping, three of our newest jewelry artists have sent us intriguing new work.
Amy Kekst: Artfully elegant necklaces and earrings are the signature style of this fabulous designer. Amy has been creating in the arts for over thirty years, and now works with her twin sister, Audrey. They use semi-precious gemstones and combine them with silver and gold to create timeless designs. Kekst's designs are bold and tactile, and often combine suprising elements to achieve a stunning visual impact. Perfect for an elegant evening out, or to put the perfect touch on a more casual outfit.
Anne Koplik: Inspired by vintage designs, Anne Koplik has been developing her line of earrings, necklaces, braclets and brooches for over twenty-seven years. Her initial inspiration stemmed from her mother, who was a millinery designer during the 1920's. Anne now works with her daughters to develop a new line every season. Each piece is made with brass filigree findings and glass crystals to create an instant heirloom.
Birgitt Hellemann: Originally from Germany, Birgitt now lives in the Bay Area. She makes beautiful creations from dichroic and fused glass. Dichroic glass has micro-thin coatings of metal oxides and was originally developed by NASA for use in satelite optics and spacesuit visors. Since it's development, artists have discovered the art of fusing in a glass kiln to create one-of-a-kind sculputres and jewelry. We have over thirty examples of Birgitt's beautiful work in the form of earrings, bracelets and necklaces.
Hurry in to check out this eye-candy!

Artfully Designed ICON Handbags and Accessories Have Arrived!
Front: Hygeia continental wallet, art by Gustav Klimt
Chemers Gallery, your "one-stop-shop" for unique gift items, artwork and framing, has added yet another fantastic vendor to our mix. ICON has arrived just in time for the holidays! One of our clients told us about the luxurious handbags and leather goods, and Karen jumped at the chance to bring them into the gallery. Museum-quality reproductions of some of the world's most notable art works characterize ICON's incredibly soft, fine leather products, making them ideal for the gallery setting.
Launched in 2001 by an Hollywood filmmaker and art collector, ICON introduced the nation to Andy Warhol's Campbell Soup Can imprinted on a leather, comfort sneaker. This bold use of color, printed on soft, supple leather was unique in a world of brown and black leather shoes.
By licensing the use of images from up-and-coming artists, as well as masters like Monet, Van Gogh and Klimt, ICON created a phenomenon. It quickly caught the attention of celebrities, media, and before long these wild, new conversation starters were selling out.
Soon the loyal ICON customer was collecting her favorite artists as well as wearing "some of the most comfortable shoes ever." Now the art lover can take her art with her to enjoy all day long.
ICON bags are the perfect gift for the art connoisseur in your life. You can see our range of products by visiting our website, or you can stop by Chemers Gallery. We will gladly order any handbag you like if we don't have it in stock. Sorry, we don't have any shoes, but will be happy to place special orders!

Lilia Venier - Not Just Another Ceramic Bowl
Ceramicist Lilia Venier is warm, bubbly, and enthusiastic. Her love and passion for the art of ceramics is clear from the way she describes her pieces to the intricate work itself. Lilia says that working with clay has been the most wonderful experience of her life.
Lilia came to the US from Mexico, where she earned a degree in Business Administration. She then completed her certificate in International Business at Glendale College, where she enrolled in a design class "just to check if I had any talent in this area." Lilia certainly does possess artistic talent, which she was able to explore further in a ceramics class. "Ceramics has given me the opportunity to express my ideas and creativity in a different way. I create pieces that have a variety of colors, textures, interesting shapes and carvings which I especially enjoy."

Both whimsical and functional, Lilia creates wonderful ceramic works that play with the imagination through the use of combining different techniques. "To focus on just one technique would be boring for me."
Click HERE to see examples of Lilia's other fantastic creations. Thirteen new pieces are available. Come by Chemers Gallery Saturday, September 27th to see her new work and enjoy some refreshments. While you're here, take a few moments to enjoy our newly hung walls with lots of new artists and older favorites.

Jacqueline Kamin has had a long relationship with Chemers Gallery; over 20 years, in fact. After closing her gallery, Jacquelin Kamin Fine Art, in Laguna Beach, Jackie chose us to represent her. We're happy to say the day has come that Jackie's work will be on display at CHEMERS GALLERY! We're also pleased to introduce Jacqueline's daughter, Stacy Kamin, accomplished in impressionistic style painting as well. We hope you'll come and celebrate with us as these two fine artists begin a new relationship with CHEMERS GALLERY.
| Jacqueline Kamin Born in 1950 in Washington, D.C., Jacqueline Kamin received her formal art education from the Corcoran Museum School in her native town, and later attended the Art Students League and the Sculpture Studio, both in New York City. Some of her many awards include first place in the landscape category presented by the Coastline Community in 1992, an honorable mention from the California Art Club 89th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, First Place for Still Life at the 3rd Annual California Autumn Salon in 2002 and an honorable mention from the 'Sights of Santa Ana Invitational' held at the Bowers Museum in 2004. Recent exhibits include: The Annual California Autumn Salon in Beverly Hills , The 23rd Annual Juried Non-Members Exhibition at The Salmagundi Club, NYC, America's oldest art club, leading to her membership; and the 92nd Annual California Art Club Exhibition at the Pasadena Historical Museum . Jacqueline teaches at workshops run by the Academy of Figurative Art in Los Angeles, and in 2006 was included in the Art Competition and Exhibition sponsored by the Susan Kathleen Black Foundation, where she won the Juror's Choice Award. Jacqueline Kamin is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the California Art Club, where she serves on the Board of Advisors, and the Salmagundi Club. |
| Stacy Kamin Stacy Kamin began painting during her childhood in Washington D.C. She graduated from the Academy of Art in San Francisco and continues her studies under the Chinese Master Shuqaio Zhou, and her mother, American Impressionist Jacqueline Kamin. She also travels to various workshops under such American Masters as David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw. Kamin's style is reminiscent of the still life paintings by the 19th century master Henri Fantin-Latour, appearing delicate, uncluttered and austere, despite her thick paint, wide strokes and richly textured canvas or board. The underlying energy of each work excites us like the abstract expressionist paintings of Franz Kline. Youth, talent, training, and a mixture of artistic heritage make Kamin's works not only fresh and exciting, but also entrenched in the rich history of art. |
