Less than a month into 2014 and it's looking to be a busy year! Already, we have announced two upcoming events and received artwork from new artists and familiar faves. Plus, we're throwing around some ideas for future events and even a Kickstarter project!
However, we're never too busy to share what's new and exciting around here!
Let us introduce you to...
Denise Duong is one of our newest additions to Chemers Gallery. Karen found her work on a trip to Park City, Utah, and fell in love. After more than 2 years of phone calls and emails, Denise sent us some paintings and we absolutely flipped! Opening a box of her artwork is like opening a treasure chest - that same
heart-in-your-throat feeling can be felt whenever Denise sends us her newest creations. Her whimsical cast of characters are always on the go, always with an air of celebration. Men and women play instruments, ride bicycles and old fashioned motorcycles, enjoy hot air balloon rides and toast one another aboard boats in the sky. Denise will often add her beloved bull terrier to her fanciful creations.
Every canvas is
rich in color and texture. There's nothing like standing up close and personal to see the details of paint, pen & ink, and layer upon layer of decorative papers collected from the artist's travels. Each painting is constructed like the set of a play in which Denise is playwright, set & costume designer and director. Her players always steal the scenes and make you want to jump up and join them.
Denise not only exhibits around the United States, she also contributes art to causes like Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundations and Planned Parenthood. Trained at the University of Central Oklahoma and the School of the Arts
Institute of Chicago, Denise is based out of Oklahoma, but, like her
characters, she is a free-spirited nomad at heart! She believes her artwork should be lighthearted and fun,
created in celebration of the joys life has to offer.
