The Westide Illustrators is a dynamic and talented group of artists formed under the auspices of the SCBWI-LA. Their purpose is to build a community of emerging and established local illustrators all working toward the same goal: success a s children's book illustrators.

For "Not All Stories Begin Once Upon a Time," eighteen artists were asked to illustrate one or two lines from classic children's books. Like all good stories, this one has a twist: the illustrators were not given the titles of the books, nor were they told what the books were about. The results are worlds built from words; visual stories created solely from the imaginations of the artists. Using a variety of media and techniques, these members of the Westside Illustrators have transcended literal illustration to celebrate the art of storytelling for children.
