Laguna Beach Summer Arts Festivals

Did you miss out on the annual summer art festivals in Laguna Beach? Don't sweat it! Beat the heat and see what you missed at Chemers Gallery! We carry a selection of work from some of the talented participating artists year-round!

Sandy Clark: Soft still life and figurative works done in watercolor. Sandy works mostly on yupo paper, which is a synthetic paper that adds to the spontaneity of her work. Her dreamy compositions are created using non-traditional techniques.

Lilia Venier: Fun, whimsical ceramics with unique glazes and textures. Lilia uses a combination of techniques, such as throwing and hand-building to create one-of-a-kind art pieces. Each work makes you want to touch them to feel the textures for yourself!

Jie Zhou: Beautiful, traditional landscape oil paintings. Jie has an eye for detail and composition. Influenced by the muted colors of his childhood in Suzhou, China and the more vivid colors of his adulthood, Jie expresses peacefulness in his paintings.

Mary Aslin: Award-winning still life and plein air pastels. Mary's colors are rich and velvety. They really convey her love of the creative process. Mary also exhibited at the Sawdust Festival this year.

Dirk Hagner: Sophisticated relief etching, letterpress and woodcut prints that combine text and image to stir emotion. Originally from Germany, Dirk uses his experience with language, words and printmaking to create unique landscapes and breathtaking figures.

Gerald Schwartz: Gerald's details are simply amazing in his photo-realistic oil paintings. Using the ever-changing sky and retro elements as inspiration, his striking paintings have the ability to draw you closer to the canvas for further investigation.

You may know Cathy June Arneson from behind the counter at Chemers Gallery, or have seen her beautiful pastels hanging in the gallery. You already know that she's a talented frame designer and a friendly, helping hand. Cathy has added another feather to her cap and has illustrated her first children's book!

We Eat Food That's Fresh is a sing-a-long story about trying new foods, especially fruits and veggies. Cathy has created beautiful pastel images that are simply yummy, as one of our clients put it. Written by Angela Russ-Ayon and published by OurRainbow Press, We Eat Food That's Fresh is a feast for the eyes and for the tummy. No, you can't eat the book! But we're sure that Cathy's scrumptious illustrations will make you run right out to find some fresh food of your own!

Already an experienced pastel artist, Cathy had never even dreamed of working within children's book illustration until she began working at Chemers Gallery. Our annual Children's Book Illustrators Show & Signing really struck a chord with her, showing her that illustration could be a painterly expression of a story. Soon she was inspired to join a group for aspiring illustrators, SCBWI, and discover for herself just what it took to become a children's book illustrator.

RSVPs are appreciated!

Celebrate the release of Danny Evans' first book,
Rage Against the Meshugenah
,
published by Penguin!

Not only is he Karen's brother-in-law, but Danny is also the author of the hit blog DadGoneMad.com, in which he chronicles his life with his wife, children and chance encounters.

With his characteristically humorous writing, Danny details his personal descent into clinical depression and the steps he took on the road to recovery. While depression and its associated feelings are rarely discussed from a male perspective, Danny gives us an honest portrait of the illness with his signature hilarity.

Reviews:
"Danny Evans demonstrates unequivocally that funny people get depressed, and depressed people don't lose their sense of humor. His memoir is honest and unblinking in its portrayal of how depression colors a life, and yet it is as funny a book as you're likely to read. Wholly original, and a real pleasure to read." - Robert Rummel-Hudson, author of SCHUYLER'S MONSTER

"A razor-sharp, witty new voice with loads of heart." - New York Times Bestselling Author Josh Kilmer-Purcell
